Asier Quintana, winner of the Best Emerging Basque Designer award at
the 8th edition of the BIAAF International Competition, explores identity, heritage, and transformation through his two collections, Biziraun and Crisis. 

Biziraun (Basque term for “enduring”) marks his debut as an independent designer — a profound reflection on heritage and family roots that shape the essence of human existence. Through the transformation of vintage garments and family relics, Quintana deconstructs and reinterprets the symbolic meaning of traditional attire, particularly the “costume”. Classic tailoring merges with experimental draping, while masculine codes are softened through a more sensitive, emotional lens. All materials are sourced from deadstock and vintage fabrics of heritage value.

His latest collection, Crisis (SS26), delves into the journey of a decadent and tormented mind. It reimagines classical menswear codes through a critical and ironic reinterpretation of 17th-century Spain under Philip IV. Elements such as collars, ruffs, and cuffs are revisited to question the political and cultural restrictions of that era. Baroque opulence and excess
intertwine with modern restraint, resulting in a collection that oscillates elegantly between history and contemporaneity.
